THERE ARE A LOT OF ROOFERS IN ANCHORAGE. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE?
Getting a new roof on your property should be a stress free experience. Chances are that you are not a roofing expert. You likely don't know what makes one shingle better than another, what makes one underlayment better than another, or what the Anchorage building code requirements are. You shouldn't have to know. When you choose an exceptional roofing contractor they will know all of this, and much, much more.
Following are some details to consider before embarking on your roof replacement project ...
HOW LONG HAS THE COMPANY BEEN IN BUSINESS
We have seen many (many!) roofing companies open and close during our 21 years as a roofing contractor in Anchorage. Some roofing contractors exaggerate the length of time that they have been in business to create a false sense of longevity, and add credibility to their business. You can easily verify when a company was first licensed in Alaska by visiting the State of Alaska License Search database. You want a contractor that will be there for you if any problems develop down the road, and a new buyer of your home will likely want assurance that the roof was installed by a roofing professional with a solid history in our community.
REPUTATION
Certainly, there are online review sites that provide ways to get information on how well a company conducts their business. Some have better controls than others to avoid false reviews from the business owner, employees, family members, and paid reviewers, but many don't have a way to discern the legitimacy of the review. We think that the best way to get a true sense of a company is to talk to your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Their experience with a company will be honestly shared with you, absent any incentive to give you a biased review.
ALL ESTIMATES ARE NOT EQUAL
If you get several estimates to replace your roof you will likely find that some are more specific, while some are quite vague. You should be cautious of vague language in any proposal to do work. Premier Roofing Co. will be as specific as possible about what our scope of work will be, and what materials we will be using to get the job done. We find that if we are perfectly clear before we start the job we can avoid dissatisfaction during and after the job.
Alternatively, a roofing company that is using vague language in their proposal, such as "install new shingles" or "install underlayment", may be attempting to conceal the brands to make it more difficult to compare their estimate to some other estimate. Not all roofing products are the same, and there can be a substantial difference in the price and quality of different brands. A roofing contractor should always be willing to tell you the brand of materials that he/she is quoting.
PRICE
Price is obviously important to consider, but it definitely should not be the only criteria when selecting a roofing contractor. Remember the old adage "you get what you pay for"? At Premier Roofing our focus has always been on doing the best job, using the best materials. We have to compete with many other companies that are not nearly as concerned about quality, but instead they just want the job at any cost. Oftentimes, we are not the lowest bidder because we will not sacrifice quality to get the job. If you are simply seeking the lowest price, we are likely not the contractor for you. That being said, we will always provide you with options so that you can choose from a quality range of products that best fit your budget. We encourage you to ask lots of questions of us, as well as the contractors that we are competing with.
With some due diligence on your part, and reliable information from prospective contractors, you can make an educated decision for your roofing project. We have some more helpful information to aid you in selecting an Anchorage roofing contractor here.
